by TOM DONNELLY
The Seventh Annual Versailles Baseball Diamond Club Dinner/Auction, Featuring CRAIG STAMMEN is all set to go this coming Saturday evening, January 9, at the Versailles K of C Hall. A limited number of tickets are still available for $50 each by contacting various Diamond Club members including: JOHN KINDELL (937) 877-0070, TED LYONS (937) 538-1145, RICK WARE (937) 423-0687, TONY ROSE (937) 632-3132, OR TOM DONNELLY (937) 423-1609.
The featured entertainment for the night will be live on-stage interviews with Master of Ceremonies DAVE ROSS greeting five very special guests. This year’s batting order will be VHS girls basketball coach JACKI STONEBRAKER, Hall of Fame baseball writer HAL McCOY, Cincinnati Reds pitchers RYAN MATTHEUS and JJ HOOVER, and finally free-agent Major League pitcher CRAIG STAMMEN.
A social time and cash bar will begin the casual festivities at 6:00 p.m., followed by the 7:00 dinner (prepared once again by Mrs. Mary Bergman and her crew), the on-stage interviews around 7:45, and the auctions--both live and silent--at approximately 9:30. The entire evening’s scheduled activities should be finished early enough for our special guests to have some time to mingle with our customers for a while afterwards.
This event has customarily attracted mostly adult men and women (yes, ladies, it’s for you, too), but the kids will not be neglected. The annual Versailles Youth Baseball Clinic, featuring CRAIG STAMMEN, will be held for local kids on Sunday, January 10, at the old Versailles High School. Grades 3-6 will receive instruction from 1:00-3:00, grades 7-12 from 4:00-6:00. The cost is $20 per player, which should be submitted with the required registration form on the day of the camp. Versailles head baseball coach RYAN SCHLATER will be heading up the support staff, which will include Versailles Tigers baseball coaches and players, as well as several other area baseball coaches.
A very special thank you goes out to the following Corporate Sponsors: Kamps Pallets, Kaup Pharmacy, Staars Baseball Academy, Midmark, Press Pros Magazine, North Star Hardware & Implement, Davis Camper Sales, Second National Bank, Phelan Insurance, Creekside Drive ‘N Go, Sidney Spouting Service, Prenger Financial Services, and Burkettsville Garage.
